Read articleHi, I’m Sian! I’m an award-winning investigative journalist and fact checker.
I currently work at the independent fact checking charity Full Fact, writing about mis and disinformation spreading online. I’ve published several investigations on viral AI-generated content, including a wave of fake videos about the UK government supposedly introducing extreme new laws to monitor citizens, which saw TikTok take down 18 accounts, and issues with Grok and Google AI overviews mistaking an AI imagery as genuine footage of the Huntingdon train attack.
I’m especially interested in information resilience and efforts to label and identify AI generated content, including visual clues, watermarking tools such as SynthID, and C2PA.
I began my career in local journalism, first as a trainee reporter at the Evening Standard, and then as a BBC Local Democracy reporter for South West London, where I won the Cathryn Nicoll Award for young journalists for my work on the initial response to the pandemic.
I then moved on to the publishing magazine, The Bookseller, where I was a senior reporter, before working my way up to News Editor. I’ve always been an avid reader and occasionally dabble in creative writing.
